Victor Allen Bothast, Sr., 81

Victor Bothast died May 17, 2014 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, OH.

Vic was born March 7, 1933 to the late Harvey and Rowena (Read) Bothast in Union City, IN.  He married Barbara “Bob” Ann Stewart, April 1, 1950.  He once had a carpet cleaning service, worked in construction and loved the job he held at Westinghouse as a Union and insurance representative.  He said he liked the people and it was a good place to work for a fair wage.  He and Bob had family rental properties in the Union City area.  He enjoyed farming and raising his own beef.  When asked what he would like his children and grandchildren to know, he said; “Do the best you can do at whatever work you choose.  Help one another whenever you can.”  He loved his family.

Survivors include four daughters, Catherine (Ed) Schafer, Pamela (Mike) Monk, both of Winchester, Cynthia (Jon) Miller of Portland and Jody (Rick) Koon of Union City; one son, Victor Jr. (Kathy) of Union City; 14 grandchildren, Aaron Schafer, Josh Barnes, Lisa Bothast, Nathan Bothast, Barbara Bothast, Andrew Miller, Ericka Kramer, Misty Mote, Amanda Wood, Brandon Monk, Brooke Monk, Taylor Koon, Jessica Holt, and Greg Koon; one sister, Odine Starbuck; 36 great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; and two pups, Mattie and Daisy.

Vic was preceded in death by his wife, Bob;  his parents; one sister, Eileen Taylor; brothers, Clarence, Richard, and Medford; and one grandson, Victor III.

Calling hours are from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday May 22, 2014, at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc. in Union City, IN.   Funeral service will follow.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the staff of State of the Heart Hospice for caring for and comforting Vic the past several months.
