Sharon Arlene (Abbott) Burton

July 30, 2021
Sharon was born July 11, 1946 in Greenville OH to John and Ida Joan (Hildebrande) Abbott. Ida Joan later married then Union City OH police chief Harry Bailey, who Sharon credited for helping raise her and affectionately called him “Dad Harry”.
A National Honor Society student and graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School, Sharon worked briefly for Lambert Mfg. in Ansonia before turning all her attention to caring for her family. She was an excellent and avid cook and devoted much of her time weeding her garden and caring for her flowers, especially the poppies that make their brief appearance annually. She also enjoyed traveling, with Michigan and Maine as her favorite destinations. Sharon was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jody Burton; her daughter, Laurey (O’Dell) Martin (husband Rob) of Union City IN; three sons, Nicholas O’Dell (wife Rachel) of Kettering OH, John Butt of Seattle WA, and Nathan Butt (fiancé Kristy Williams) of Union City OH; nine grandchildren, Alexa Armstrong (husband Dustin), Reece Martin, Cassie Martin, Casey Meyer, Olivia O’Dell, Joseph O’Dell, Josephine Petricola, Madeline Petricola, and Luca Hambly; and two sisters, Sue Johnson of Pensacola FL, and Cheryl Abbott of Tucson AZ. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Louise McNutt, and dear friend and neighbor, Margaret “Peg” Warner.
Per the family's wishes, there will be no public services for Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of America.
