Robert Lee Bateman

Robert Lee Bateman was born on December 14, 1938 in Union City, Ohio to Ralph Thomas Bateman and Ruby Schrader Bateman. Bob passed away peacefully on August 31, 2016.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara (Roberts) Bateman, his children: James Bateman, Marilyn (Randy) Ziemba, Michael (Janyce) Bateman, and his grandchildren: Abbey Loy, Alyssa Ziemba, Kali and Tristen Bateman.  Preceded in death by Ruby Schrader Bateman, Ralph Bateman and John Thomas Bateman.   Bob was a loving husband, great father and proud grandfather who enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren.  Bob was always so full of life, was open to new experiences and loved to travel. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help others who needed it the most.  He was a self-employed mechanic and was the owner of Bateman’s garage.  He was a member of the Eagles, Couples Euchre for 49 years and the Wednesday Night Council Meeting.  He enjoyed working on cars and always found a way to overcome the many challenges of his profession.  His garage always had an open door and he truly enjoyed those who would stop by just to chat.  Bob will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit and kind heart.  His passing will have a long lasting effect on his family, friends and his community.  Services will be Saturday September 3rd at 2:00 PM at Reichard Funeral Home at 400 West Deerfield Road Union City Ohio.  Friends may call from 11:30 AM until time of the services at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Greenville Union Cemetery.  Memorial contributions will be made to Union City Ohio Fire and Rescue Squad, HOSPICE of Darke County or the Donors choice with envelopes at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be made at reichardfh@hotmail.com.
