Melvin Dale Wantz, 75, of Union City, passed away Wednesday, April 17th at Ball Memorial Hospital with family by his side after a brief illness.
Mel was born on June 11, 1943 to the late Dale and Ina (Kochersperger) Wantz. He was a 1961 graduate of Union City-Wayne High School. After high school he served in the United States Air Force, stationed for the majority of the time at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mel married Sue Ann Cotter on October 19, 1968. Mel worked at the Farmers State Bank for 34 years before retiring in late 1999.
Mel is survived by his wife, Sue Ann; his daughter, Melanie Zambori; son Michael (Abby) Wantz; sister Betty Hampshire, and brother Donnie (Dotty); as well as grandchildren, Alex, Nathan, Eli, Zoey, and Piper. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Ina, his brother Richard, and his sister Maxine.
Funeral services will be on Monday, April 22nd at Reichard Funeral Home. Visitation hours will be from 4-6 pm with a short service to follow, officiated by Reverend Mick Whistler and Brad Key.
