Marlene Livingston 89, a lifelong resident of Union City, died Friday, September 3rd at American Heritage Assisted Living in Union City, IN. She is survived by her two children, Brad (Jennifer) Livingston of Lisle, IL and Trish (Dale) Gelhaus of
Union City, IN. Six grandchildren, Ben (Bri) Gelhaus, Lindsay
(Erik) Zicht, Allison Gelhaus, Brittany (Zach) Ullrich, Brooke (Greg) Holsworth, and Lauren (Matt) Caputo and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was also survived by a brother-in- law, Jim Spradling.
Marlene started her career at the Farmers State Bank and then began working in the family business, Wright’s IGA, upon their opening of the supermarket where she worked until the sale to Marsh Supermarket in 1987. She and her husband Jack also owned & operated Livingston Auto Sales (formerly Livingston Chevrolet) from 1968 until present. Marlene was a founding board member of the Union City Health Services Corp. to form the Staudt Pavillion for Assisted Living which in now known as American Heritage Assisted Living. It is only fitting that she spent her last two years as a resident of American Heritage. Her family is beyond grateful to the employees for their loving care of her.
There was nothing more important in life to Marlene than her family. Her greatest source of pride were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all referred to her as “Mimi”, as did most of their friends. Numerous weekends were spent traveling to sporting fields, arenas and courts all over the mid-west to watch her grandchildren compete and she was no doubt their biggest fan.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack, who just passed May 28, 2021, her parents, Chet & Pauline Wright, infant son, Randall Livingston, brother and sister-in-law Dan & Sara Wright, sister Patricia Spradling, in-laws Lawrence & Aline Noggle and infant granddaughter, Emily Livingston.
