Margaret Jean English 88 of Union City, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Barrington of Carmel, in Carmel, Indiana. She was born on July 19, 1936, to the late Harry and Sarah Margaret {Murray} Scott.
Jeannie, as she was known to her many friends, was a 1954 graduate from Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk, Indiana and a 1958 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana where she also was a member Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Jeannie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She kept herself busy with family, friends and civic involvement. She was a director for many years with the Dunn Mental Health Center in Richmond Indiana and the Union City Library. She was involved with the Library Board, The Art Association of Randolph County, the Union City Preservation Society, Rotary and Teacups. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie leader and Room Mother for her three children as they grew up. Jeannie was also a substitute teacher for many years in the Randolph Eastern school system and for a few years was the owner of Commercial Printing in Union City.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard J. English.
She is survived by her three children: Christopher {Martha} English, Shannon, {Matthew} {English} Collins, and Katie English-Franzak. Grandchildren; Michael {Angelica} English, Katy {Alex} Hackett, Maggie English, Conner Collins, Natalie {Scott} Farley, Grayson Collins, Caleb and Zoe Franzak. Great-grandchildren; Natalie Rose English.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Friday November 22, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 515 West Oak Street, Union City, Indiana 47390.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Jeannie’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Geoff Grow officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at Union Cemetery in Eaton, IN.
In leu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
