Lloyd A. Weiler

Lloyd A. Weiler, age 88, Union City, IN, passed away on April 14, 2025, at home following an extended illness.

He was born north of Union City, the son of William “Doc” and Nancy (Bennett) Weiler on June 2, 1936.

Lloyd attended Jackson Twp. IN school as a young man and graduated in 1955 from Union City West Side.

He was employed by Red 73 Creamery, hauled milk, and later worked at Sheller-Globe for 32 years as a shipping and receiving clerk and served as a union steward. He later worked at Frank Miller Lumber, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed raising saddle and draft horses, beef cattle, and buffalo for many years and farming. He brought his first buffalo back from Kansas and obtained the remaining buffalo from Glen Miller Park in Richmond when they closed their zoo. He also enjoyed raising Texas Longhorn cattle.

He rodeoed in his younger years, including saddle bronc riding, calf roping, and other events and belonged to the Circle X Riders and Union City Trailblazers. He enjoyed coon hunting and raising coon dogs.

He played bluegrass and country music for over 70 years, playing guitar and leading the Green River Boys and Cumberland Valley Boys who played throughout the local Randolph and Darke county area. He enjoyed bluegrass festivals and attended fiddle and banjo contests with friends.

He also enjoyed going to auctions and antique tractor shows with his son.

Survivors include: his wife of 53 years Karen (Sease), son James Weiler, and nieces and nephews and members of Karen’s extended family.

The family would like to thank friends, neighbors, and the church family of New Lisbon Christian Church who helped make Lloyd’s final days comfortable.

A memorial service will be held later to celebrate Lloyd’s life.
