Jeffrey "J.W" Wayne Osting

November 4, 1970 — January 20, 2025

Winchester, IN

Jeffrey “Jay or J.W.” Wayne Osting, 54, a beloved resident of Winchester, transitioned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Born on November 4, 1970, J.W. was a son of the late Dixie (Schoenke) and Dallas Osting. He was a proud 1989 graduate of Winchester Community High School, where he excelled in athletics and left a lasting legacy, including a track record still proudly displayed in the high school gymnasium. Though academics weren’t his passion, J.W. had an exceptional intellect and a generous spirit, always eager to share his knowledge and skills with those around him.

Family was the cornerstone of J.W.’s life. He shared a special bond with his parents and grandparents, often recalling treasured fishing trips with “Granny and Gramps” and their adventures out west. Known as “Mr. Fix It,” he was always ready to lend a helping hand to his loved ones.

Left to cherish J.W.’s memory are his two beloved daughters, Brittany (husband Zane) Woodbury and Jaylei Osting; two adored grandchildren, Sawyer and Addalynn Woodbury; two brothers, Shane and Kyle Osting; one sister, Wendi (husband Marty) Cross; one niece, Lillian Cross; and one nephew, Landan Cross.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Dixie Osting; grandparents, Jack and Clara Schoenke, and Eugene and Marjorie Osting; uncle, Ken Schoenke; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

J.W. admired his daughters deeply and was immensely proud of their accomplishments. Brittany Woodbury, known as Mo to her dad, is a very successful ISR Swim Instructor. J.W. was very proud of all her accomplishments. Although they might disagree at times, he would go on and on about the special bond they shared. He was very proud of the mom she had become and his two grandkids, Sawyer and Addalynn. This time will be cherished and never forgotten. Jaylei Osting, also known as Squirrel, is a very successful artist. Most people will say- this is the female version of himself. J.W. was so proud of Jaylei. He could chat for hours about all her accomplishments. They had a very unique relationship, that only they could understand. One thing for sure, he was happy to call her his own. Jaylei is known for her artwork and murals and J.W. would be the first to post and brag on her talents. He took great pride in their lives and celebrated their many achievements with joy.

J.W. worked for many years at ColorBox in Richmond, where he built lifelong friendships. Known for his “badass” attitude and his unwavering willingness to help others, he earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers. He was a passionate Florida State fan and supported his team with unwavering pride, no matter the outcome.
