James Victor Lewis

James Victor Lewis, age 62, of Winchester, IN passed away after a 3-year battle with esophageal cancer. James was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a 1980 graduate of Union City Community High School and married Teresa (Powers) Lewis in 1983. 

James never met a stranger! He would greet everyone with a smile and small talk. He was a loyal member of the Union City Community Schools Custodial Staff where he was honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2009 Homecoming Parade. 

James enjoyed playing bluegrass music including banjo, guitar, and harmonica. He was a talented musician despite not having formal training. He was also a talented artist. He excelled in many forms of art such as doodling caricatures, painting murals, designing signs, and custom lettering for banners and vehicles. Aside from music and art, James spent a lot of time and took pride in the upkeep of his home, yard, and pond. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dogs. 

James is survived by his sister Dinah Collins, brother-in-law Dave Tillman, and sisters-in-law Janet Powers, Cindy (Doug) Cash, as well as four nieces and one nephew, and seven great-nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Lewis, his sister Cheryl Tillman, and his loving parents, Jim and Jeanie Lewis, parents-in-law James and Lilly Powers. 

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday August 10, 2024, at, Reichard Funeral Home, 400 W. Deerfield Road Union City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Jame’s life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Union City Cemetery. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union City Community Schools to support music and art programs.
