George M. Root, Sr.

George M. Root, Sr., 78, Union City, IN, passed away Tuesday, August 9^th, at his residence following a short illness.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  A 20 year employee of the Mississinawa Valley School Corporation and a 12 year employee of Reichard Funeral Home. 

He was an active member of the Harrisville Congregational Christian Church.  He enjoyed barbershop quartet singing, playing his cornet, spending time with his family and his pets Kipper and Bootsie.

Survivors include Judy (Hollinger), his wife of nearly 60 years, brother Budd (wife Nancy), brother-in-law Bud Burridge, sister-in-law Ramona Hollinger, sons George Jr. (wife Annette), Rick (wife Tina).  Grandchildren Rick (wife Jennifer), Josh, Mark (fiancé Jessica), Joe, AJ (fiancé Shea).  Great-grandchildren Michael, Isaac, Delainey, many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Violet (Waldon) Root, sister Betty (Root) Burridge, infant brother Lloyd Root, brothers-in-law David Hollinger, and Jack Boze,  great-granddaughter Jenny Root.

Visitation will be Friday, August 12^th, from 4-8 p.m. at Reichard Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at Reichard Funeral Home on Saturday, August 13th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Coleman Smith and Rev. Jim Bradshaw officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at The Union City Cemetery.  Donations can be made to the Salvation Army with envelopes available at the funeral home.
