Dr. Wayne “Doc” Eugene Sharp, DVM, 88, passed away Tuesday November 15, 2011 three years to the day after his beloved wife Betty, at the St. Vincent Randolph hospital in Winchester.
He was born May 30, 1923 in Ansonia, OH, to the late Charles A. and Mabel C. Mann Sharp. He was a 1941 graduate of Greenville High School, also a 1947 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbus, OH.
Dr. Sharp owned and operated the Union City Animal Hospital for 58 years, in the early years known as Drs. Sharp & Diehl. He was a dedicated, well-known veterinarian throughout the surrounding area. He really enjoyed taking care of and treating other people’s pets, it was his hobby. His other hobby was raising and riding Arabian horses.
This past year, Doc had been living in the home of his loving and caring caregivers; Paul and Darla Fields of Ridgeville, IN. Also, their daughter Amy Collins was there to lend a loving hand. For a number of years he served on the Randolph County Board of Health. He was also a 50 year member of; the Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge #1534 and Masonic Lodge #401, he was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Throughout the years, he received numerous recognitions from his community.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Susan J. (Kent) Smoot and Kimberly J. (Troy) Sharp-Rose both of Union City, IN, two grandson’s, Christopher (Missy) Michael of Union City, IN and Gabriel (Kim) Smoot of Brownsburg, IN, two granddaughter’s, Shauna (Jim) Runkle of Portland, IN and Heather (Joel) Rose-Dunning of Minneapolis, MN, nine great grandchildren, Chelsy Michael, Allie, Taylor and Andrew Smoot, Lauren, Gracelyn and Christian Runkle, Scarlet and Asher Dunning. Two sisters, JoAnn Thompson and Marjorie Strait both of Greenville, OH, three brothers, Jack (Joanne) Sharp, Gerald (Arlene) Sharp both of Greenville, OH, and Larry (Patty) Sharp of Lancaster, OH. Sister-in-laws, Earlene Morris of Gordon, OH, Pharol (Bill) Dodt of Greenfield, IN, Sandra (Jerry) Linder of Indianapolis, IN, Winifred Netzley of Bradford, OH, and Judy Sharp of Rock Hill, SC. Brother-in-laws, Walter Lynn (Clara Mangen) Netzley, and Dick Heft both of Greenville, OH. One uncle, Gene Sharp of Greenville, OH, two aunts, Mary Alice (Norman) Redmond and Helen Harter both of Greenville, OH. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Sharp “2008,” brothers, Max, George and Adrian Sharp, brother-in-laws, Robert Thompson, Carl Morris, Jerald Netzley, Wayne Netzley and Jude Oswalt. Sister-in-laws, Ann Kendall, Eileen Netzley and Marilee Oswalt Heft.
Private services and burial at the Lisbon Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
