Dorothy Moberly Welch age 96 passed away Dec. 14, 2020 at Grand Brook Memory Care in Fishers, IN. She was preceded in death by Lloyd E. Welch her loving husband and partner of 58 years. Dorothy was born in Leslie County, KY on April 14, 1924 to Whitelaw Reid and Georgia (Napier) Moberly. Brothers, Caleb, Earl and Charles Curtis Moberly, all WW2 veterans, sister, Golden Daily, and grandson, Andrew Welch, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sisters: Kathleen Mote of Union City IN and Mary Louise Mitchell of Berea, OH. Also surviving are her loving children: Michael L. Welch (wife, Judy) Muncie, IN, Susan J. Welch, Noblesville, IN, and Cynthia K. Welch, Muncie, IN. Grandchildren: Benjamin Welch (wife, Ferah), San Diego, CA, Laura Welch, Fishers, IN, Megan Thomas (husband, James), Muncie, IN, Erin Wilkerson ( husband, Carl), Fishers, IN, Jacob Brown, Suffolk, VA, Kyle Brown (wife, Bonnie), Anderson, IN, and Tyler Lesh (Wife, Tara), Davis, CA. Great Grandchildren: Lenore and Lola Welch, Caroline Kridle, Cody Welch, Kylie (Preston) Hampton, Julien Lyons, James and Kayden Thomas, Layla, Ava and Cameron Wilkerson, and Gavin Brown.
Dorothy received her bachelor's degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, OH and her master's degree from Ball State University. Dorothy taught in New Mexico for two years and nearly four decades in Winchester, IN at Morton Elementary School. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, a member and Sunday school teacher at Bartonia Methodist Church for more than 30 years, a tutor at the adult literacy program at Winchester Library, and a member of several bridge clubs in Union City, IN. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading all of her adult life. Even in her 90's, her "old" students would walk up and introduce themselves to her. One such student approached her and introduced his son who was also a former student of hers.
Reichard Funeral home in Union City, IN will be in charge of funeral arrangements. Graveside services will be performed at Spartanburg Cemetery, Spartanburg, IN on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020 at 2:00 PM.
