Donald Leon Maloy, age 78, passed away May 2, 2017 at the Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana of heart disease. He was born on July 27, 1938, in Union City, OH son of the late Cecil Jack and Iva Marie (Straight) Maloy. He lived in Union City, Ohio until 1991 when he moved to Plymouth with his wifeâs job then moved to Portland in 1999. For the past three years, he and his wife have lived in an apartment in Lutheran Life Village in Fort Wayne.
Donald was in the US Marine Corp; worked in younger days at Red 73 Creamery and Greenâs Texaco; spent most of adult life working at Sheller Globe in Union City, Indiana. He belonged to Union City American Legion, Union City VFW, Union City Eagles, and Plymouth Moose. Enjoyed playing with and supporting his grandkids; walking and exercising to keep him strong following paralysis caused by Lyme Disease ten years ago; watching and going to movies; following his favorite sports teams; spending time with his wife and grown children; visiting with people in the apartments; and being an amazing grandfather. Don says that he learned about God and salvation through his grandkidsâ speeches, plays, sermons, music performances, and ministries. He loved attending their events and supporting them.
Donald is survived by his wife of 26 years and life partner of 40 years, Marilyn Arlene (Beech) Maloy; four children, Donna (Ray) Reish, Tami (Leonard) Foster, Lisa (Bob Goble) Caupp, Keith (Jamie) Maloy; grandchildren, Brianna Foster, Brittany Foster, Joshua Reish, Kayla Reish, Cami (Reish) Gross, Kara (Reish) Guidinger, Jonathan Reish, Josiah Reish, Jacob Reish, Trenton Maloy, Mya Maloy, Lisa Reish, Maelynn Reish, Joseph Gross, and Will Guidinger; great grandchildren, Jason and Isabella Gross and one due in 2 months; siblings, Patsy JoAnn Hufford, Phyllis (Rudy) Melvin, Patricia (Tony) VanSkyock; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Joe Maloy; stillborn grandchildren, Carly Reish and Logan Foster; siblings, Betty Bragg, Mary Plessinger, Beatrice Peters, Marilyn Kay Shafer, William Maloy, Jack Maloy, Bobby Lee Maloy (infant death).
Visitation is 12 noon - 2:00 P.M. Friday May 5th, 2017 at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc., 400 W. Deerfield Rd., Union City, IN. Services are 2:00 P.M. also at the funeral home with the Rev. Jonathan Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery. Military burial rites will be conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
