Delbert I. Elliott, 101, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. Delbert was born November 22, 1914 in Union City, Indiana. He was the son of the late Worley C & Etta A. (Bretz) Elliott. He retired from the Railroad and Randolph Eastern School Corporation. He also worked at Sprads filling station delivering coal and WhiteStone Computers. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Anyone who met him - even for a moment âcan agree that life was not wasted in Delbert Elliott. Growing up as a hard-working man, he maintained an âalways moving, always doing mindsetâ, but this did nothing to take away from his child-like humor. Without pause, he could make the most hardened of people crack even a small smile, and it was a blessing he was more than willing to share â despite his own circumstances. Insightful, considerate, and reliable as time itself, everyone he met walked away changed. Many were proud to call Delbert their friend, and even more were proud to consider him part of their family. With more than a century of life under his belt, he was never short a story to tell, and he told them with a contagious twinkle in his eye. You could almost see the memory playing back as if it happened yesterday, and you had the opportunity to be a part of it. Always one to prefer kindness to fear, he was a beacon of knowledge and wisdom and a strong hand to hold. Even the animals and pets in his life learned to cherish his company, and â despite their inability to respond â precious conversations were shared. Firm, but understanding; strong, but loving; wise, but not overly serious. There will never be enough words to explain just who this man was, and his actions continue to echo and speak for themselves. Each and every moment, each and every memory shared will be cherished forever. No, life was not wasted in Delbert Elliott.
Delbert is survived by a grandson; Gary Delbert Elliott; 3 great grandchildren, Corey Robert Elliott, Katelyn Lucille Elliott, and Jessica Marie Elliott; great-great granddaughter, Julianna Rose Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theora Lucille Elliott; a son, Gary Lynn Elliott; 2 sisters, Echo Elliott, Mary Elliott; 2 brothers, Donald Elliott and Cecil Fay Elliott.
