D Allen Jefferis

D. Allen Jefferis, 84, passed away Saturday September 17, 2022. He was born October 10, 1937, in Union City to the late O. Duane and Pzauline “Betty” Shockney Jefferis.

 Survivors include his wife of 63 years Betsy McKinley Jefferis; children Amy (James) Pictor of Westfield, IN, Brad (Sarah) Jefferis of Union City, IN; grandchildren Will (Savanna) Pictor, Anna Katerina Pictor, Isaac Bradly (Kora) Jefferis, Jacob Scott, Ava Grace, and Stephen Luke Jefferis; sisters Anne (Bob) Dunn of Indianapolis, IN, Tad (Debbie) Weigle and family; brother-in-law William (Nancy) McKinley and family;  many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a son Scott Allen Jefferis in 1981.

 After college, Allen returned to Union City to manage the family Coca-Cola Bottling business. Although the family sold the business in 1970, he continued managing the business until he started J & J Vending in 1981.  Allen was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather throughout his life.  His community was very important to him and he served in many capacities:  Allen was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Governor Otis Bowen, Served as 10th District State Republican Chair, he served as an Indiana Delegate to the 1980 Republican Convention and attended Inaugural activities with President Reagan’s election. Served as President of the Union City Hospital Board guiding the board through it’s eventual sale in 1993.  The Board established the Union City Fund from the proceeds of the hospital sale, allowing grant opportunities for non-profits. The Union City Fund was part of the Randolph County Community Foundation (RCCF).  Allen was awarded the Director Emeritus from the RCCF for 10 years for dedicated service between 1998-2008. Member of the Union City Preservation Society, Randolph County Art Association, Rotary Club, and the First Christian Church.

 Visitation is from 1-3 PM Sunday September 25, 2022, at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc, 400 W. Deerfield Rd., Union City, IN. A funeral service will follow at 3 PM with Monte Poling serving as the celebrant. Burial will be held later at the convenience of the family in the Union City Cemetery.
