Caroline Veronica Gates

  Caroline Veronica Gates, 98, of Union City passed away April 2, 2011 at the Union City Care Center.  She was born July 12, 1912 to the late Lewis and Laura Bey.

  Caroline was a resident of this community for most of her years, a homemaker, also worked for Campbell Soup Co. in Saratoga, IN for several years.  She also spent a few years as a caregiver for ill or home bound people.  Upon retiring she was thankful to God for finding her an apartment close to the St. Mary’s Church of which she was a very faithful member, also a member of the Alter Rosary Society and Ladies of Charity.

  She is survived by a son Everett (Emily) Gates, two daughters Mary (Bill) Redmond, and Donna (Jack) Welker.  Fifteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.  One sister Magdalen Messaros.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don Gates, six brothers, three sisters and a grandson Rick Redmond.

  Visitation will be held Tuesday April 5, 2011 from 5-7 PM at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc.  A Rosary service will be conducted at 5:00 PM Tuesday evening.  Services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday April 6, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mike McKinley officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Union City, IN.
