Arthur Joseph “A.J.” McGill of Union City, IN passed away Tuesday August 13, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 16, 1942 in Knox County, TN to the late Walter D. and Mamie (Coker) McGill.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane E. Witler McGill, children; Debbie (Nolan) Sullenbarger, Cathy (Steve) Waggoner and Tracey Fulton. Grandchildren, Leah (Katey O’Connor) and Carah Sullenbarger, Dustin, Lane and Megan Fulton, Cody Wolber, and Cole and Evan Droste. Mother-in-law, Florence Witter, and a brother-in-law Mark Witter. Sisters, Jean Hunley, Nancy Phelps and Dottie Hayes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Claude and John E., and a sister, Lela Fine.
Arthur served his country in the U.S. Airforce from 1959-1963, and was a proud member of the VFW and American Legion in Union City, IN. He moved to Randolph County, IN in 1963 where he raised his family and eventually retired from his profession as a carpenter, construction superintendant and a plant manager. In his younger years, he enjoyed rodeoing with his brother, coon hunting and fishing. In his retirement, his joy in life was his grandchildren and time with his wife, sisters, and daughters. He loved woodworking, gardening, and even took up cooking. He never lost his feisty demeanor, and always had a way of bringing out the best in everyone.
A service to celebrate Arthur’s life will be held 5:00 P.M. on Friday August 16, 2013 at Spartanburg Christian Church with Brian Richmond officiating.
